If you research successful entrepreneurs, and if you hear them answer the question “What sets apart successful entrepreneurs from those that are unsuccessful?” the most common answer you will find will be perseverance.

Success is not something that people are born with, or something people are destined for.  Talent is a dime a dozen, there is nothing more common than unfulfilled talent.  If success was easy then everyone would be successful.  But the truth is success is hard to come by.  TO be an extremely successful person in today's world is to be an anomaly.  If you want to be an anomaly that means you have to act like an anomaly, and the best way to do that is to work hard and never give up.

On your path to success you will have a great many obstacles.  And the obstacles will seem to be great and insurmountable.  You will be shaken to your core.  You will be very very tempted to give up.  Those who succeed are those who persevered throughout their journey, who didn't let fear or doubt dissuade them from their commitment to their dreams.

A prestigious university did a study on which character traits are most likely to predict success.  Their answer was “grit”. Grit is defined as a "positive, non-cognitive trait based on an individual’s passion for a particular long-term goal or end state, coupled with a powerful motivation to achieve their respective objective."  In other words: The study showed that the character trait that most likely predicts success is the ability to persevere towards a goal.

When you encounter incredible obstacles, you must learn to change your plan, not your goal. You must learn to rest, not give up.

Think strategically to overcome whatever is holding you back. Try new things if necessary, but never compromise your goal or your dream. Too many people have given up just before their moment of victory. I have noticed this to be true in my own life; when the urge to give up is greatest I know I am closer than ever to achieving my desired result.

Doubt and fear have killed more dreams than real barriers have. And sometimes you have to persevere against all logic except for the voice in your heart that tells you to press on.
