There is an old saying that if you want an apple you’ve got to go shake some apple trees.
This means that you have to go work for what you want; that you cant just wait around and expect apples to be delivered into your hands. And this is true.. but that’s not always how the universe works.
Success is never a straight line, and things rarely go according to plan.
The universe does reward hard work, but it is not as simple as shaking an apple tree for an apple. It is more like if you go shaking some apple trees, you will find some oranges. I know that doesn't sound like it makes a lot of sense, but that is a more accurate statement of how the world works.
What I mean by this is that hard work is necessary. You must take initiative and go fight for what you want. But things change, and obstacles arise. You have to be flexible and keep working hard and adjust and adapt and continue.
Your failures and obstacles will redirect you and you will find yourself with opportunities that you could not have predicted from the outset. What is more likely to happen is that your massive and determined action will start a chain of events so complicated that you can not trace it, and doors will open for you that seem to be unrelated, yet represent great opportunities for you.
Your action somehow attracts new opportunities that you could not have predicted or foreseen. If you keep a good attitude and a good work ethic you may not get the apple that you thought you would get, but you will find yourself with a bunch of delicious oranges.
Steve Jobs said you can not connect the dots of your life forward, only backwards. If you think you can predict your climb to success you are wrong. Only when you are old will you be able to connect the dots and see how shaking the apple tree led you to your oranges.
So.. the lesson here, is to work hard and don't give up, remain flexible and keep working hard and you will find success in ways you could not predict.
